Position Description

The primary duties of the dental Hygienist include cleaning and polishing teeth, instructing patients in good oral hygiene habits and after care for dental treatments rendered, and providing other preventative dental care.
Essential Functions
  • Assist the Dentist during general dental procedures
  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.
  • Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease
  • Chart conditions of decay and disease of diagnosis and treatment by dentist
  • Apply fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay
  • Provides nutritional counseling, and self-care programs to prevent disease
  • Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to patient needs
  • Solicits patient feedback to improve service
  • Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease
  • Provide health education to improve and maintain oral health of patients
  • Breaking down operatories and sterilizations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • 6 months of experience in a dental environment as a Certified Dental Hygienist
  • Current Dental Hygiene License as per State Dental Board requirements
  • Current Local Anesthesia license as per State Dental Board requirements
  • CPR Certification
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Must present a positive attitude at all times
  • Knowledge of all ADA codes, OSHA and HIPAA requirements
  • Knowledge of biohazard and infectious disease procedures
  • Must be able to work a 12 hour shift or various shifts as assigned, including weekends
